TIME & Chance
What do you think about the cyclic nature of the clock’s routine? Or better still what can you infer from it? Can you halt time’s forward movement, so it remains static until you are ready to move? Imagine how chaotic our collective sense of time would be if humans have the power to stop time. Unfortunately, time is a movement that cannot be stopped. But what is this thing called time?
The rich and the poor, the wise and the foolish, kings and servants, lords and subjects, everyone has this indisputable resource (called Time) at their disposal. No one’s time is greater than the other, and interestingly everyone’s result is a function of how well they harness this resource called time. Well, let’s put it this way – the results you produce is a function of whether you spent or invested time. There are obviously moments in life when you need to spend time, but more importantly, to achieve reverberating results, you must learn to invest time more than you spend time. Spending time may give you instant gratification, but investing time gives you perpetual gratification when you begin to cash-in on the result of your time investment.
It is a reality that there will always be people at extreme ends of any comparative study. Believe it or not, this represents a picture of those who have either spent or invested their time in achieving the result that they now see. The wise man has invested his time in acquiring knowledge and applying that knowledge over the space of time to exude the command of wisdom. The same goes for a foolish man, who probably has spent his time ignoring obvious moments to acquire knowledge and thereby now at the mercy of the wise man.
Another reality is that everyone starts at the center, not the extreme end of the comparative analysis. In order words, no one is born wise. However, what you choose to do with your time is your conscious (or call it unconscious if you like) decision to belong to either end of the extreme.
Now, there is a phenomenon called Chance that visits people periodically bearing all sorts of goodies – call it opportunities. Fortunately, this phenomenon indiscriminately presents itself to people without regard to who they are. It however demands your certificate of time output in exchange for the opportunities it carries. Unfortunately, no prayer or wishful thinking can help you at this very moment of exchange. You bring nothing you get nothing, that’s a fair game! This is the moment where opportunity can either make or mar you. The question now is, what do you have in your hand to exchange when opportunity comes knocking?
What are you doing with your time? Are you spending or investing your time? What commodity are you producing from the crude time that you have been given? There is no point begging where you can exchange what you have at your moment of chance (or opportunity). I suggest that you examine what you have. What you have is a function of what you have done, and you do with your time.
